American Fund for Alternatives to Animal Research

Welcome to AFAAR!

afaarThe mission of the American Fund for Alternatives to Animal Research (AFAAR) is to promote and assist in the development and use of alternatives to animals in all areas of science and science education.

Incorporated in New York in 1977, AFAAR provides funding to develop, validate and implement the use of alternatives to animals in research, testing, and education.

AFAAR's goal is to advance scientific methods that are more efficient, efficacious, and predictive of human responses than outdated and cruel animal experiments and testing. Millions of animals suffer in scientific, biomedical, industrial, military, agricultural, cosmetic, and other areas of research, as well as in testing, science education, and training. Advances in science and technology make this suffering not only unnecessary, but attest to how flawed, limited, and oft times dangerous the use of animals for the purported benefit of human health is.

One of our major programs is the Fellowship Grant for Alternatives to Animal Research in Women's Health and Sex Differences.

Born of a compassionate heart, the movement to end the use of animals in research, testing and science education now has scientific evidence showing that we've been, not only ethically but also scientifically, right all along.
